Hello, my name is Andy and welcome to my blog.....
Blogging is just one of those things that just comes your way, sure i have had a few requests to write a blog but i had to think about what to blog and why. In the end i just decided that it would simply be a challenge to try something new and if at the same time i can share some of my experience's and interests in life then it has to be a positive thing to do.
So what am i going to blog about? Well its going to be a long list and in no particular order. Family life, Xfactor, American idol, Boats, Playing the drums, music, photography, baking, Little Venice, model aircraft, Twitter, politics and anything else that happens to inspire or just be floating around.....
For my very first post i have taken inspiration from my Grandfather that being E. L. Todd a very brave man who's story can be found in the fantastic book "Forgotten Voices of the Great War"
by Max Arthur. In 1972, the Imperial War Museum began a momentous and important task. A team of academics, archivists and volunteers set about retracing WWI veterans and interviewing them at length in order to record the experiences of ordinary individuals in war.
Ernest lived in Islington, London and served in the London Regiment during the summer of 1915. He speaks about how it was on a nice summers day and how the birds might start singing if the sun was up and the fllowers out front. All of this he speaks whilst looking out through a periscope at the German frontline. That is what i call a positive out look on life, never a forgotten voice in my mind.
How much does it say about one's strength of character that in the midst of war, they can look at their surroundings and still see beauty. A wonderful human being I bet. Great first blog. I love that you are doing this.
